Cerro La Cruz

Doing Cerro Ramon, a few weeks ago, reignited our thirst to try Cerro La Cruz which limits to the west with the Sierra Ramon.

There are 2 main access routes: up Parque Mahuida, up Quebrada de Macul (or a third one down from Cerro Ramon). We had tried the Mahuida option a few years back, during the summer... which is not a great idea as it is an extremely uphill and dry route. In addition, a friend of ours mentioned that it was the scariest trek that he had ever done as it was so exposed ;op (he might be exaggerating a bit, we might find out if we try it next winter through this route!) This time, we tried Quebrada de Macul with a few friends and it was really enjoyable.

The first section goes gently up next to the Macul river and through really lush vegetation (mediterranean sclerophyllous forest). This takes approximately 2h to ascend.

Lots of flowers :)

A slight change of landscape

Lots of uphill

No cross, only Antennas! :o(
Afterwards, the vegetation disappears and the landscape becomes more rocky (less shrubs and more grass) and it takes approximately 3h of ascent to reach the antennas which mark the top of Cerro La Cruz (funnily enough... there is no cross at the top, how disappointing!!)

We really enjoyed this walk as it combined beautiful views, with lots of nice vegetation and also, apart from the first section, not very many people venture that far along this path so it was quiet :o)
