Sky Diving

Now and again it is time to push one's limits and get out of the "comfort zone"... which is precisely what we did a few weeks ago when we decided to try sky diving!

The central area of Chile has lots of pluses for skydiving, non least, very good weather and visibility for most days of the year and in any season! The place we chose was Skydive Andes and it is about a 50min drive from Santiago (directions on their website).

The plan is simple:
  • You book a tandem jump (this means you jump with an experienced skydiver which is a big plus if you have never done it!),
  • turn up with comfy and warm clothes (it gets cold up there!) at the agreed time,
  • and pay (between 105 000CLP and 150 000CLP just for the jump, photos and videos are not included and are not cheap! ~70 000CLP)

and they do everything else:
  • lend you the equipment,
  • make sure the kit is in good condition and that you put in on properly,
  • explain what will happen
  • and help you relax.
You can read a lot on the internet about what it is like but really you have to experience it! For us, it was the closest thing to flying (like birds do: with their bodies!) we have ever experienced.

For the number junkies, roughly it works out to be:
  • 5-10 secs of free fall - this is the high adrenaline bit in which you go from 0 to 200km/h,
  • about 50secs of "floating" or falling without acceleration - this is the really cool feels-like-flying bit
  • and then about 4-5mins of parachuting - after the previous minute, this is actually quite relaxing!

A little clip and some photos below:

Happy to be safely back on the ground!
