It is not the first time we spend a few days in Los Rios, either for some Termas and a bit of forest, or to climb a volcano. This time though, we also had some company, as some of Patricia's family came to visit.
A walk in the woods with the family
We had a fairly varied agenda and sample quite a few of the local activities near Pucon:
Los tres Saltos - 3 waterfalls very near to the hut that we rented.
Los Ojos del Caburgua - A lovely spot in the shape of a crystalline blue lake where 3 rivers join in impressive waterfalls.
A mapuche Ruca - this is a mapuche settlement where one can stay the night, eat some traditional foods (they also cater for veggies :)). Our hosts also treated us to some Palin (or Mapuche Hockey). One can organise a tour from Pucon... or alternatively just drive to the spots that are marked on the tourism maps (or signed posted along local roads).
Rafting
Villarrica National Park with its impressive Araucaria trees. There, we made a route to the glacier.
Huerquehue National Park, where we did the first part of the los Lagos trail, visiting Nido de Aguila waterfall, Trufulco waterfall, then Lago chico followed by Laguna Toro, and finally Laguna Verde.
A visit to Valdivia - the botanic gardens and also in particular the market with the very iconic sea lions (literally walking around the market)
Termas Los Pozones - which have the Rio Liucura nearby for a nice mix of hot and cold water :)
Termas Geometricas - stunning location. a canyon with waterfalls included in the middle and at the end.
And for the non-vegan among us, there was also some horse riding.
Overall, extremely enjoyable (see a selection of photos below, or in higher resolution here),
it is a nice book. Family thank you for sharing. Happy Año Nuevo !!
